RicNic Oxford to bring Jason Robert Brown’s ‘Parade’ to the stageYou think you understand how a man's heart beats -And you don't know a thing...It's our first show announcement of 2020 - and what a cracker it is! We're thrilled to announce that RicNic Oxford will be returning to the Old Fire Station from 19th - 22nd August with the gripping modern musical Parade. With music and lyrics by acclaimed composer Jason Robert Brown, and a book by famous screenwriter and playwright Afred Uhry, Parade is a dramatization of an important moment in American history: the real 1913 trial of factory manager Leo Frank. Frank, who was Jewish, was eventually lynched by a racist mob - and the events surrounding the investigation and trial (sensationalised in the media) have been directly linked to the revivial of the (at that time) defunct Ku Klux Klan and the birth of the Anti-Defamation League. This heart-wrenching tale is brought powerfully to life in the musical, which explores - through a soaring, colourful score and moving story - notions of love, endurance and hope against a backdrop of prejudice and tension. We can't wait to see what our talented RicNic Oxford team make of it!Whatever your passion - whether you're a budding performer, technician or simply love musical theatre - there's a place for you at RicNic Oxford in summer 2020. RicNic Burton’s Debut Show AnnouncedI've got more in me and you can set it freeI can catch the moon in my handDon't you know who I am?Remember my name! The second of our show announcements is very special because it marks the debut of our NEW RicNic Burton branch! It's with real delight, therefore, that we confirm RicNic Burton's 2020 show: Fame. The branch will put on their first production at the Brewhouse Arts Centre between 26th - 29th August 2020.Fame probably needs little introduction: its catchy songs and enthralling storyline have gripped audiences since the 1980s, when the film first hit our screens. Shortly after, it was developed into a hit stage musical, which has been revived countless times in every major language; and, finally, a television series, which ran for six seasons.Fame tells the story of a young, energetic, diverse group of performers who have gathered to study at New York City's High School of Performing Arts. As the young students pursue their ultimate goal - stardom - they learn some hard lessons about love and life. Striving for a career in showbusiness is, for some, harder than it looks - and during the highs and lows of their school year they face many challenges that still resonate today (from sexual exploitation to addiction). With a rousing score that includes hits like 'Bring on Tomorrow' 'Dancin' on the Sidewalk' and, of course, 'Fame', this toe-tapping, exciting musical is a treat for the whole family. We're so excited to see RicNic Burton's new production in August 2020!Do you live near Burton and fancy learning more about this year's production? Please do get in touch with the Burton team or follow them on Facebook for all the latest updates. We’d love to hear from you!

RicNic London Announce ‘Dogfight’ as their musical for 2020Some kinds of time are real quick to leave youSome kinds of time you can't dream awaySome kinds of time are said to deceive you...'Following the closure of the Stockwell Playhouse, RicNic London has found a new home for 2020 - the South London Theatre. It is with real delight, therefore, that we announce that Dogfight will be their first show at SLT, playing between 19th and 22nd August.A modern musical based on the 1991 Warner Brothers film of the same name, with music and lyrics by Tony-Award winning duo Pasek and Paul (Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman, La La Land) and a book by Peter Duchan, Dogfight is a haunting and compelling story. Dogfight follows the final 'hurrah' of a young group of marines who are about to be deployed to Southeast Asia in the 1960s. Promising themselves one final night of debauchery and fun, things take a turn when the recruits decide to up the stakes with a bet: whoever can bring the ugliest date to the party will win. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, a shy waitress, it seems that the rules of the game are about to be rewritten - and that he has a lot to learn about love and life before he heads off to war.A genuinely charming tale of love blossoming in unexpected places and the power of compassion, Dogfight is a moving musical with fantastic songs. We hope you're as excited as we are to see RicNic London bring this unique and challenging show to life!Fancy getting involved with this year's production?
