Productions

What we do:

Our productions strand champions RicNic’s youth-led approach by offering opportunities for young people to become social entrepreneurs and activists for change in their communities. Young people have a platform to develop and deliver a public-facing event which can vary in scale according to timeframes, partners and locations.

Whether creating a theatre production, music festival, community art day, short film, or an immersive murder mystery evening (all current or recent projects), every single role is filled by a young person, from the director to the dancers, designers to the drummers. We recruit a core production team, and then hand them the responsibility of creating and producing their event for a public audience in fantastic venues in each of our locations.

Supported by our staff, Trustees and partners, each company is ultimately in charge of every aspect of the production, from balancing the budget to what goes on the stage and how it happens.

Every RicNic project is FREE to all participants, and requires no previous experience. We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, orientations and perspectives: our diversity and our inclusive approach are core to everything we do.

How it works:

1.     PRODUCTION TEAMS RECRUITED

We recruit teams of 16-22 year olds to lead each project, taking on the roles of Producers, Directors, Musical Directors, Choreographers, Designers, Technical Directors, and more…

2.     PROJECT SELECTED AND PREPARED

These production teams work with RicNic’s staff and mentors to develop the initial concept for the project they wish to produce, establish their budget, develop their marketing materials and plan their production requirements.

3.     PERFORMERS, CREW, AND BAND RECRUITED

The team recruit the wider company needed to bring their project to life, bringing together performers, crew, and anybody else needed for their production.  They also receive free training from our industry partners to prepare them to run their project.

4.     SHOWTIME

The full company comes together for workshops and rehearsals, putting all elements of the project together, promoting the project to attract an audience, and enjoying the chance to present their work in a local venue.

RicNic Productions for 2024 are happening in Staffordshire, Cheshire, and the West Midlands. Creative callouts are posted across our social media channels.

We always love to hear from new people wanting to get involved and venues in other locations who would like to work with us.
