Breaking In is an accessible interactive video platform that explores potential career pathways in the creative industries.

Across 9 different sectors, you’ll meet artists, creatives, curators, and more, who either work for leading organisations across the Midlands or are established freelancers in their field. They’ll share more about their job, why they love it, and how they got there, along with tips and tricks for you along the way. You can choose what order you view the 9 sectors in, and if one particularly captures your interest, watch the longer version of the video with even more insight into the project. Afterwards, you’ll be signposted to a whole range of follow-up resources to help you take the next steps in your journey.

The platform can be navigated in a group setting, such as a classroom, or individually at your own speed. Captions are available for all videos.

For Teachers

Breaking In is a practical tool that supports Gatsby Benchmarks 2 & 5, with further signposting supporting benchmarks 3 & 8. The platform takes around 90 minutes to complete when using the worksheets, but we’d recommend 2 hours to enable sufficient time to explore the follow-up resources. The platform can be navigated in a teacher-led format with accompanying worksheets, or individually at students’ own pace in the order that aligns most wth their interests.

The programme takes the following format:

  • Video: Introduction
  • Question: “How creative are you?”
  • Video: Wider context of the creative sector
  • Careers Hub: Menu of 9 videos (5-10 minutes each) that can be watched in any order
  • Wrap-up
  • Question: “How creative are you?”
  • Outro
  • Signposting Guide

The signposting page for the videos can be found here. This includes the option for users to have the link to this page emailed to them.
