Trees In The City (Journey To Wolverhampton)

Lady Wulfruna stands in the square
Surrounded on all sides by migrants.
Saint Peter came from somewhere else,
So did the Lebanon cedar
And as for the weeping ash tree
It had come all the way from Babylon.

History says this Lady of Mercia
Quelled the Viking tide at Dane Law;
A great battle was fought at Tettenhall –
Or was it the Battle of Woden`s Field?
The Saxons had come from somewhere else,
Angle Land an island of invaders.

We all came from somewhere else:
The people, the saints and trees.
Pied wagtails bobbed overhead
And stomach growled for kedak chai.
In the city of the Black Country
A ring necked parakeet laughed.

Journey To Broken Minds – Kintsugi

My journey to repair my broken mind
I can compare to the Japanese art
Of Kintsugi, filled with gold and its’ kind
Beauty in the scars of mind, soul and heart.
There’s a grace in the cracks, let in the light
Gold shines out in the darkness of the night.

Nothing on earth is irreplaceable,
We are all broken somewhere on the scale.
We are all one and not comparable
When the winds of doubt are filling our sails.
We are all broken, a work in progress,
Competing emotions, a boiling mess.

I know the Almighty sees all my scars
yet shines out like gold from within,
Released from a cage of guilt and its bars,
Gold in forgiveness, the healing begins.
Mercy is a virtue and a beauty
That rises like a rainbow, infinity.
